| Specs: |
Released 2005, 6.1 Mp (3008 x 2000) CCD, Color Space IIIa, 3D Matrix Metering II, Nikon DX format (1.5x FOV crop), 5 AF areas Multi-CAM900
|
| Pros.: |
Five auto focus selectable areas seems enough for most situations (lower models have 3 point, not enough), AF Auto Servo is a helpful feature; built-in AF Motor (uses AF & AF-S lenses: with or without built-in AF motor), Top LCD, usable ISO up to 800, good colors and sharp image results out of the camera, performs well in most light situations, over/under exposure well under control. Easy to use, light to carry, long-lasting battery. Real value for the money (s/h 250 EU), TIPA award 2006.
|
| Cons.: |
6 Mp may be too restrictive if doing crops + larger than A3 prints. Wish a faster AF. No detailed WB. Less post-processing RAW manipulation (12-bit color output + CCD sensor format) of NEF files needed or can be performed. 1/4000 max shutter speed. Need tripod to shoot w/o flash in low light (night), AF hunting in some situations (can't detect some areas or in low light). No DOF preview button. 2,5 fps - not that good for action & sports. Red-ish noise almost unusable in low light and high ISO. Mono-color histogram.
|
| Conclusions: |
Seems to fit between the entry level D40 and the D80. While limited in images post-processes, poor night-shoot nor fast performer it is otherwise an excellent camera for starting into DSLR. Right out-of-the-box very good results.
